I think, and let me know if this is true, I am getting better at the whole… reading aloud thing, though there is still many outtakes involved.

Nathan McKaskle lives in Houston, TX. When he is not delivering new content to the readers of Lost Liberty Café and studying philosophy as well as psychology, he is working as a Citrix Server Administrator at Hewlett-Packard.

as an eternal optimist that is best friends with a steadfast pessimist, i am constantly trying to figure out how she grew one way, and i the other.

of what i am sure of is that we do somehow balance each other out. its my job to point out that if she only looked at it a different way, she might realize that the situation is not as grim as she thought. and she knows how to explain things to me so i can see that i am holding on to whimsical beliefs that are stopping me from figuring something out, that i am getting in the way of making it better. we both help the other see ourselves better, since its hard to look inward to see yourself objectively.

i never find that she seeks out to destroy my “sunshine, lollipops and rainbows” outlook on life. in fact, its quite the opposite. i fight to get her to see the possibilities and to help her discover her self worth, because she is pretty great. and she lets me. i may not always win, but she always lets me try.

i dont think i will ever understand pessimism. i mean, i am human, i have bouts of it, but it will never be something that lives in my core. and i am lucky that my parents helped mold me this way. and being so close with my friend i can see how hard it is to break free from the patterns of thinking that you have had comfort in for so long. so i applaud your new path and offer any encouragement you need along the way.
